Art Bio: I have been drawing for well over 7 years of my life, but have been drawing with the goal of being an artist in the future for five years. I began going to DigiPen Institute of Technology for my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Digital Art and Animation (BFADAA or BFA) the fall of 2016 and am scheduled to graduate in 2020. I currently plan on pursuing a career in 3D Character modeling, but I also want to try out facial rigging and animation. My end goals of going to DigiPen is to end up getting a job in a game company to work on creating video games.

Personal Bio: I really love cats.

SO! My second semester at Digipen is about to begin. This semester I will be taking:

Animation 151- Defato
This class is Animation Basics II, and will be focusing on walks, runs, and two people interaction projects. There will be team projects on this that I once again plan on working with SkyBlueSapphire on.

Art 120- Moody
This class is the Language of Drawing II, and will be focusing on drawing organic materials from observation. Such as rocks and fabrics. (We quite literally have to find AND carry around a god damn rock XD)

Art 130- Finnerty
Tone, Colour, and Composition. This class focuses on painting different types of textures and materials. Unlike before in prior classes, this class is now being taught in gouache (like the first class) instead of oil paint.

Art 150- Buckner
This class is Human Anatomy and of course will be focused on the human figure and what not.

Art 151- Rossano
This class is Figure Drawing, and will be focused on the human figure and gesture drawing and motion poses.

Project 101- Poplin
This class is the first Project class that BFA's have to do. This class is basically preparing us to go into either film teams or game teams and teaches us to work together in teams to create an animation.

What I am looking forward to most!</u>

The classes I am most excited for this semester are the human anatomy and figure drawing classes. But over all I am excited for all of the classes! I am super pumped for the drawing classes and painting. This semester I have also been invited to many game teams and asked to do commission work for them, but I have not decided whether or not I will be doing that this semester. I most likely will not, but you never know. I am though a little bummed out that I was not able to get my 130 painting class with Doug this semester (He only was teaching one, but it conflicted with other class times. ALSO, does not mean I dislike the teacher I got! I just like Doug). As for the supplies, I took a trip to Blick Studio and got all of my supplies PLUS SkyBlueSapphire's for under $200 (which is insanely good imo).

What I would change this semester compared to other semesters!</u>

For this semester one this I am going to change compared to the last semester I had spent here is I am going to try to get my work done faster (like ahead of time) and probably spend less time dilly dalling. Although I did not waste my time last semester, I just know if I really pushed myself to it I can get the work done sooner than required. The reason I did not do that last semester is because not only was it my first semester at Digipen, but I was also getting used to living on my own for the first time. In order to get ahead on my class work, I am going to spend my weekends in the beginning of the semester working instead of sitting around last semester (last semester I did not start working on weekends until after the third week of school). I also am going to try to keep my meal prep times down, instead of getting ready in the morning and spending that time to make lunch, I am going to get lunches ready the night prior. I also plan on doing more work during the school day between classes. Last semester I really did not work between classes and generally spent this time to eat, take naps, and hang out with friends. Although I will still do those, unlike last semester I have way larger breaks between classes (last semester my largest break between classes was 3 hours, this semester the largest break is 6 hours and smallest is 3).

Personal Goals!</u>

Mid Semester: By midterms, I plan on not having pulled any all nighters to get class work done. I also plan on having all of my work for the first half of the classes submitted and passed with a grade over 80.

End of Semester: By the end of the semester I want to have all of my assignments turned in with over 80's on all of them and to get over 85's in all of my classes. (last semester all of my classes were above 80 in the final grade, I want to get even better and get all of my classes above 85 this semester). I also plan on completing 3 sketch books AGAIN this semester of personal work and sketches.

In order to reach all of these goals, I am going to work my absolute hardest on all of my assignments in order to get them done in a timely fashion . I also will not put off doing resubmits for projects just because "70's are passing," although that is true, I am pushing myself my absolute hardest in order to get better at drawing and better grades. In order to get an average of 85 in ALL of my classes, I will have to resubmit any and all work that I do not think is to the grade I believe I can get. I will make myself resubmit anything that is below an 80 even if it is "passing."

End of School Year goal: By the end of this school year (this semester is last of the school year) I plan on having completed 6 total personal sketch books along with 4 total large sketch books that are used in classes. at the given point I am at, I have already finished 3 total personal sketch books along with 2 sketch books from class work.  I also plan on getting my over all GPA at or above 3.5 and keep my SAP at 120%. (GPA: Grade Point Average, SAP: Satisfactory Academic Progress) Currently, my GPA is at 3.06 (0.44 from my goal) and my SAP is at 120% (0% from my goal).

Okay, so like SkyBlueSapphire is doing I thought it was also a good idea to do a weekly update on how my experiences at DigiPen are going just for another perspective! (Check out her DigiDiaries for her perspective!) Here, I will be talking about literally everything from the clubs and activities, cost, things to do around her, cheaper alternatives of purchasing art supplies for classes instead at the student store, and much more. If you ever have any specific questions feel free to ask! Also, if you ever have any questions for different degree programs, feel free to comment on these journals or note me with questions and I can ask my friends in those programs to answer them! I would love to get more useful information out there to the community and would like to help people to decide whether or not they are willing to go to this school!

**NOTICE** This is not to  convince anyone to go or not go here, it is just to get the perspective of a current student out there and share what it is like to go here instead of hearing it from staff members or looking up on other websites that do not produce helpful information about the school.

Log: Week One

Over all feeling: I feel that for the first week there was a decent amount of work to sort of ease you into using the programs and naming conventions for turning in your work. There was A LOT of information that was dropped on you the first day that you HAVE to keep track of, and there were also a lot of important people and places you learn of in the first week. I really enjoyed my classes and feel that for right now, I have a lot more free time and what not to be able to work ahead on my class work. I really enjoyed my teachers and know I will be enjoying the largest chunk of my classes. I really like the lay out of the school and the amount of open work space there is. I also enjoyed the amount of time I have between my classes that can be used for eating lunch, getting a head start on my homework, and up loading homework assignments. The people who go here (as students) are REALLY great (90% of them at least, there are some stuck up people, some people who complain it is "too easy", and people who are plain ass holes but very little of them and easy to keep track of). So far, I really enjoy being here and will continue as far as I can tell.

First Impression: Okay, so first off, this school is STUPID EXPENSIVE. There are mainly two types of people going here, 1.) People who are able to get full financial aid (or most) and are able to afford the rest, 2.) People who can not get financial aid because their parents "Make too much money" and should be able to afford it (although they can not because FAFSA does not take in consideration A LOT of things like house payments, car payments, other kids etc. . . ) and 3.) People who are fucking rich that can afford this school out of pocket (I only met ONE person in the whole school so far who can do this. and that's because his dad works there). The cost is crazy high at this school and that is one of the biggest problems this school has. It is TOOO expensive, it scares off people or people refuse to go there because of the price. I do think though there is a reason behind the cost. I have a feeling that the school is as expensive as it is to "scare" off or "weed out" people who are not taking it seriously. I have the feeling that it is if you REALLY want this job and you REALLY want to do this, you would put the money into it, other wise there are cheaper alternatives that do not have as great as an out come (This school has a 90% turn over rate. Which is unheard of, it is insane. 90% people get jobs before or within the year of graduating. That is insane.) So basically you are paying to get a job in order to pay off the debt you got into to get a job here. And let me tell you this from personal experience, looking at numbers is actually a lot more scary than actually sitting down and doing the math. If you pull out a $40k loan a year, yeah it will take a while to pay off, but if you learn to budget your money and learn that you do not need to spend every dollar you have you should have extra money you can put back into your loan to pay it off. Not only that, when you do get a job and it is the bare minimum (like $30 an hour is the minimum starting) you can pay off all of your loans in less than 5 or 6 years if you budget yourself and not waste your money.

Second, the school seems REALLY into helping you. The teachers ALL state what you can do to insure to get the best grades you can. They tell you plain out all that you need to do to insure that you are successful and they tell you if you can not or will not follow those basic rules, that it is fine to leave now before it is too late. And of course that sounds harsh, but they just plain out do not want you to waste the time or money if it is not something you do not want for sure. They also have a system in almost all of the classes that is pretty scary at first, they have it set up so that if you fail even ONE assignment, you fail. While that is pretty fucking harsh and intimidating, they have it like that because you have literally all semester to resubmit your work to get a better grade. While there is not a guarantee that you will pass the second try, you can do it as many times as you want/need to get a even better grade than the last time.

Third, there are a lot of places and resources. The library has all of the needed text books you have to use for your classes, although you can only rent them for 4 hours, that still gives you enough time to photo copy or read the chapters you need to read for the classes. The Digipen website has a TON of past students work that you can look at for examples or inspiration, and even in the halls it shows what upper class men are doing in their classes and project teams so that you can start to get a basic idea of what you want to do. The websites (moodle, roundcube blah blah blah) all have every single assignment you do in your classes for the whole semester, so if you REALLY wanted to, you can do it all in the first week. But that is generally suggested not to do because they want you to have in class practice before doing the homework so that you do it right the first time.

My schedule: So I decided just for myself and just to insure that I do not mess up anything by setting up my classes myself,  I decided to take the suggested course sequence (which is basically the order the program director set up as the easiest way of doing the classes). So this semester, I am taking

Animation 101: Animation Basics I (Core class)
Art 101: The Language of Drawing I (Core Class)
Art 125: Tone, Colour, and Composition I (Core Class)
Art 115: Art and Technology (Core Class)
English 116: Storytelling (Core Class)
College 101: College Life and Academic skills (Required for all Digipen freshman)

and that all adds up to a total of 16 credits (which is generally the average through all four years)

My Teachers:
Dough Parry: Art 125

Steffon Moody: Art 101

Micheal Lorefice: Art 115

Fara Nizamani: English 116

Rich Morgan: Animation 101

Over all I really enjoy my teachers so far and I really like a ton of the work they have done before becoming a teacher at DigiPen (Moody was a set maker for theater, Morgan worked on Lion king, lelo and stich, mulen, and many more amazing Disney films). They are all invested in teaching and are all open to helping.

The Students: Over all every one is SUPER Friendly and chill, but there will be those few people you run into that are elites or think they are better an everyone else much like any school out there. A lot of the BFA students have a ton of self doubt and for some reason so many people are afraid they are going to end up dropping out (which I don't get. if you don't want to drop out then don't. Its that simple) and a lot of the BFA's think they are not good enough (once again I do not get. . . ) but yeah. There are also those few people that like to talk shit about everyone, which is better if you just avoid them because it is not worth being known as someone like that because if you are not liked for some reason (you act like you are better than everyone or you talk shit about everyone) no one is going to want to work with you and that is fatal at this school. If no one can or will work with you you will fail in the game projects and what not. So it is important to have friends and to have a tight group.

Important things:
~Check your email, everything is sent there.
~Check moodle, some teachers are not really good at telling you whether or not you have homework in class, you have to make sure to check yourself
~Take initiative to do extra work, research, drawing, etc. It is important to go above and beyond what you are required to do.
~Don't be an ass hole. Literally so many people already dislike a few people in cohort because of the attitude they have taken up and how they have been acting. Also, a ton of people have already gotten EXPELLED for harassment and what not. This school does not take anything lightly. So just don't be an asshole.
~Do not slack off. People are already considering dropping out. . . it has only been the first week.
~Eat proper meals. (three meals a day etc. . .)
~DONT BE AN ASS HOLE
~Respect your room mates boundaries, and do not be afraid to speak to them. You are going to be living with them for a year. So better be nice to them

Affordable Places to Shop:
~Buying art supplies not at the student store can save you easily $5 on every object you have to purchase. There are other places to go for art supplies that can save you money.
~Trader Joes. SkyBlueSapphire and I can purchase two weeks worth of food for TWO people (Including eggs, milk, chicken etc. .  .) for $60. And that is easily multiple shopping baskets FULL of fresh ingredients and what not.
~There is a cosco near by, but you need a cosco card in order to get in.
(Most of these stores have STUDENT DISCOUNTS!!!)

and basically that is all I have to say about the school so far! I will be updating the log every week and have a link the the weeks priors in every entry! Anyways, if you have an specific questions and want answers just ask! I will love to answer! Also if you have any tips for how to make this better or easier to read feel free to tell me~ I just want to keep track of not only my experiences as a student but how I personally progress going here! I will also try to post some school work here too~ So feel free to check that out too~ Anyways, thanks for stopping by and reading and hope this help!

Log: Week two

Over all feeling: I really feel that recently the work load has fore sure been picking up. In my opinion, they did not really ease the work load that much, so for most people it was like throwing a brick at their face and yelling duck after it hits them. But for myself personally, I feel like I really like the work load I have and am really enjoying working on all the homework. The more I have to work on the more excited I am for the next day. I have far more free time than what I thought I was going to have, and that is a good thing because if I get my homework done ahead of time, I can spend the extra time drawing things I want to draw and hanging out with a lot of my friends! I really am enjoying going here and every day I wake up (if I sleep) ready and excited for classes. This school for sure does not feel like it is "school" and the work is extreamly enjoyable in my opinion no matter how tedious the work is.

Teachers: I for sure LOVE my teacher Doug Parry. Something about him really makes me comfortable and I really enjoy how he teaches and critiques! I really enjoy the feed back I get from him and I absalutely love him as a person. I also love all of my other teachers but he specifically has really made an amazing impression in my mind. I also really enjoy all of the amazing feed back I have been getting back from the teachers. I feel that I am getting graded by what they see I CAN DO, and not what others can do. I feel that the grading is extreamly fair and that they give a ton of feed back to help you get better and so you can get a better grade if you resubmit.

Over all I just fucking love the teachers I got this semester, my art teachers are extreamly active and very cheerful, my English teacher is very animated and has an amazing speech pattern that makes what ever she says interesting. All of my class work inspires me to do personal projects on the side and go above and beyond what is asked. I really feel that in this school enviroment I am having the best time and really getting a good idea on what I want to do and how I want to take my education.

The Students: For the most part I really enjoy a ton of people I have met so far! I have made some really good friends and have been told a TON of times that I am extreamly approachable which really makes me feel good because I really try to be that person anyone can talk to. I have noticed though that a lot of the freshman act like high schoolers sill. Most people right out of high school are really rowdy and tend to think they can not work hard or that they can put off doing the assignment to the point they do not get it done, then they consider not turning it  in. Most of my cohort tends to do that and I find it very annoying. There are also a ton of people who skip classes or do not bring their materials to class, which is also REALLY BAD. At this school you can literally be kicked out if you miss two days of class without an excuse, so basically these people are just paying $40K a year to not pass. And that is plain out dumb.

Another thing that really bothers me is that people do not take care of themselves, and that generally ends up with one person doing all of the chores around the house. I mean, personally  speaking I LOVE MY ROOM MATES!! I could have NEVER asked for better! Our house is extreamly clean and homely. We all get along, and we all respect each other. It is great! But the #1 thing that people complain about to me about their room mates are that they are slobs, thieves, and do not respect each other. I personal HATE that. Its embarrassing! You are living with someone else, you should know to clean up after your fucking self. Most people are 18 and are old enough to know that everyone fucking has the responsibility to clean and cook for yourselves! Everyone has to share the space they live with with other people! Why the fuck would anyone leave it so messy?! They are making themselves out to be slobs and to be honest, that tends to turn people away, so no one will wind up wanting to room, work, or even spend time with them (at their place at least) if they are that god damn messy! It is embarrassing, just think, would you personally want to go to a house the way you leave yours? If not then FUCKING CLEAN UP YOUR ACT AND FIX IT, if so then pat yourself on your back because that is a good thing and you are close to being an actual adult. (Also one way or another others will find out how you live and word will get out. Will drive people away from wanting to spend time with you and/or living with you. Would really be a shame if you can not afford to live by yourself because no one wants to share rent with you)

Important things:
~Actually show up to class because if you do not, people tend to dislike you/ kinda get annoyed with you and its not hidden. People are very verbal about it.
~Do not be a dick.
~Clean up after yourself no matter if it is at school or your apartment. People will find out if you are messy or not and sometimes that can lead to you loosing friends or potential team mates.
~Talk to your teachers and get to know them. That is really important. Also helps build connections that can help you get a job in the future.
~Please be well behaved, you have to share work spaces with a ton of other people. Please do not be extreamly loud while others are trying to work. Its rude and once again can drive people away

Basically that is it for week two! I really would like to know what people would like to hear about so I am just not reiterating myself each log. I really enjoy typing these and help me figure out some thoughts and what not~ Hope this helps!

**NOITICE** This is not to convince anyone to go or not go here. This is just to keep track of what my personal school experience has been on a week by week basis

Log: Week three

Over all feeling: Outbreak just came to an end which was TONS of fun. (Basicly a zombe vs human nurf war game. Tons of fun and over 150 people played this year). Have made tons of friends via that game and became closer to others. There was also a club fair in which we learned about a ton of clubs and what not. Personally I am joining  a lot, and have got pulled into teaching Yoga at the Wellness club (Which is going to be tons of fun!) I have been super involved at this school so far and over all have been having a wonderful time!

Teachers: So for right now I have noticed that some of the teachers I do have for sure grade REAALLLY hard and prefer quality over quantity. I have to resubmit (which means basically I failed the project. which is not uncommon. 99% of people fail them and have to redo them so what ever.) BUT I got a 92% on a the 30 thumb nails I worked on (WHICH IS AMAZING!!! C is the average grade which means I did excellent on it). Anyways, the school is really hard but its best to just keep working and take no more than one day as a break because you will fall behind otherwise.

The Students: A lot of the students are falling behind or are choosing to turn in unfinished work, which in my opinion is a bit. . .  silly because they are wasting there time by not doing the work when assinged but what ever. A lot more people are coming up to me and telling me how nice and what not I am which is really a good thing because it makes me feel better/ makes me want to continue to be nice because I love being told that. And a lot more people are just generally becoming approachable and what not. I have been getting a lot of invites to game teams, which is also a really good thing, but am going to not join one until I need to because I need to worry about class work more than anything right now.

Important things:
~Participate! You meet a lot of people when you go to school events, not only that, you get involvement points so when you graduate, if you have 100+ points you get a special scale at graduation.
~Stay ahead of the game, get work done. This is important to not fall behind in class work and become overwhelmed with work. Just keep up with it and do stuff ahead of time.
~Critiques are very VALUABLE. They really push you to make you the best you can become. They really are cherry picking for things to tell you to work on. So although my assignment I got an excellent grade on it, he still had a long list of what I can do better next time. I really appreciate all of the teachers that sit there and no matter how good your work is, they still tell you that you can do better. Its very valuable.
~It is hard to slide by. You have to work your ass off. There is no way of getting around that. If you do not want to constantly have to work your ass off, don't come here. Don't waste the money.
~Be frugle with your money. If you parent send you money weekly, do not waste it. It is important that you save your money for food or supplies. It is really hard to make do with little to no food.
~Respect your room mates.
~Keep contact with your family (if you are on good terms with them that is) you will miss them. At least call them and what not every so often. Visit if you can. They will for sure miss you, and you them.
~Keep track of your school stuff. I was complemented by the Accountant at the school about how often I check up on  my student account (the money that was not used on tuition or rent) She said I stop by the most and looks forward to seeing me. So just keep track of stuff it is important to know.
~Dont fall asleep in classes teachers throw things at you and it hurts.

Sorry week three is just a quick brush over of what happened. This week has not really been that eventful and I am rushing this so I can start on some homework. Anyways, hit me up if you have questions~

**NOITICE** This is not to convince anyone to go or not go here. This is just to keep track of what my personal school experience has been on a week by week basis.

Log: Week four

Over view:  Officially starting my week five this coming monday! Had a wonderful week four though, really enjoyed everything and had no issues keeping above my work. Fell short (like really short) on money because I had to spend extra money on going to a museum, buying gas, and some other stuff for class, but other than that it is good. Had to go home to work on my FAFSA stuff for next year! Hoping I get more financial aid next year. . .  really can not afford to not. . . but what ever. Finally "Failed" per say my first assignment. He just wanted me to redo one part of the assingment, that is all. But he told me what ever I needed to fix in detail. So I understand it a lot better. I have been figuring out who I REALLY like, who I enjoy working with, and who I do not care much for because of some reason. Really enjoying my over all time at this school and I can not stress enough that I am so glad I did this. I am having a blast here. Reeally.

Teachers: Like always, the teachers are EXTREAMLY supportive and are really trying their best to give you fair grades and feed back. Even if your assingment is done 100% Correctly, they still point out things you can work on. They make sure to tell you what you are doing wonderfully and tell you not to lose that spark in your art and what not. Over all, I do not think I have much of anything else to say about them!

The Students: Students are pretty quick to judge each other. The upper clansmen are really rude to the freshman and go out of their way to do so (I have not had this issue, but others have. . . ) I have had no issues with the upper classmen, and have generally got along with them, that is just something to take note of.

Important things:
~You can not take a nap in the hall ways. The security guard will tell you that you can't.
~If you take naps, your friends will nap with you. Pretty great.
~Don't waste your money
~Go to class. Don't waste your time or money to not go.

Log: Week five

Over view:  So I have made it to mid terms! This coming week I will be having my art 115 and animation mid terms (the other classes do not have them). I am quite confident that I will be able to pass both midterms, and am not too worried about them. I have three assignments to resubmit, but other than that I have full control over everything. Have been doing pretty good (Besides the resubmits) and am confident I will pass each and every class this semester! I have not really had any issues with being over whelmed with work (Or at least this semester I have not) and have gotten everything done on time without panicking, which is good! I am hoping though that I do not get too behind with my resubmits, that would really suck over all. . . But as long as I finish them this weekend I should be fine! Anyways, this is going to be brief, not really  much to update on my experiences here besides the fact I have been pretty busy with school and have been making sure to do everything ahead of time!

Teachers: Just like the past four weeks, I still absolutely love my teachers! I do though have a small issue with one, he just tends to be very wishy washy with what he wants. It isnt that bad, just gets a little annoying over all. Still enjoy his class and am super excited for the next assignments!

The Students: Students here can be extreamly salty, and that completely blows, but there is not much I can do about that. Really upset that it is like that, but what ever. Getting along pretty well with all of my friends and have made plans with some to potentially move up officially with them since we all will be continuing to go to school together! Have not had any other problems with other students, but I have noticed that some are getting really stressed about the work load. So I wish them all the best of luck~ Hope they can all stay ahead and pass. . .

Important things:
~Coupons are a god send. (Spent only $70 on $120 worth of groceries.)

Log: Week six

Over view:  Literally there is nothing new this week either. Just the same old same old stuff. I am still enjoying everyday and am having tons of fun with my friends. Just nothing new going on this week.

Teachers: Just like the past five weeks, I still absolutely love my teachers! I do though have a small issue with one, he just tends to be very wishy washy with what he wants. It isnt that bad, just gets a little annoying over all. Still enjoy his class and am super excited for the next assignments!

The Students: I am starting to figure out who I like and dislike. I do not go out of my way to be a bitch or anything, just don't really pay them much attention.

Important things:
~Do your work.
~Dont be a dick.

**Sorry that they have been super short tidbits of logs. I have not had much time to do these really. Have a ton of work**

Week 7-end of semester:

Literally nothing has changed and I have entered the twilight zone. I have lost all track of time and tend to forget what day it is/ time. But I am still having a blast~

End of semester:

SO this is just a late summation of the semester I had at digipen. Over all I LOVED everything about this school and what not. The teachers were great (to me at least) And I have so many great friends I have made through out the semester. I really enjoyed myself and over all this has been the best decision I have made in my life. I have improved a lot in my first semester and am extreamly excited to see how much I improve over the next three years. I am super excited to join a game team, and have been invited to so many (like around three or four.) I have already decided who I will be teaming with, and am super excited to start working with them. They are people I met through the club I joined and have been extreamly great friends ever since meeting them. They have supported me a ton and I appreciate them so much. I really miss my friends a lot so far over break because I used to see them almost every day (they will randomly come over on weekends at the most random times too) I just miss always being a busy body. Digipen has over all changed me as a person, I am always looking for work to do and I really enjoy going to school. I feel so much better about myself and the work I have been doing. Although I am still extreamly depressed at times,I am over all happy and enjoying life which is great. I feel like I am doing something with my time and not wasting it. It is just an over all great experience! I loved my teachers (added them all on face book actually) and I am excited to continue working with them. I am excited to continue the hard work and become the best I can. I just can not imagine not working hard anymore.
